Thanks for the link bandit. There was a lot of good info on that thread and the original FI conversion thread. I'm trying to get the original 150cc engine sold right now and then hopefully I can get my ecm. I would post it on buggy news for sale thread but I have to wait for 30 days of being a member. :( I would like to hear some thoughts on turbo charging an air cooled engine. What are some ideas to keep this engine cool. An oil cooler is for sure going on. I have thought about mounting a fan near the cylinders and head. That will probably happen if I can's come up with an alternative.I'm just not going to care for the amp draw of a big fan. I need another idea. I need to find what amperage the alternator is rated for.

Well lately I have been working on extending the swingarm and have all the pieces cut. Just have to weld them together. I'm going with about 8 inches of extension. I will post some pics before and after the welding. I still have yet to find anything on the output of the alternator. I have found something that I am going to try for the cooling. Its called a tip turbine, some of you diesel mechanics might know what I'm talking about. I don't think my turbo will support the engine and the turbine. I need to do some test on the turbine to see how much volume of air it takes to turn it. I will post some pics of it for those who have never seen one. Mack used it on their trucks to blow air across the after cooler. It uses turbo boost to spin it. Pretty neat contraption.

Here it is. I used 2x2x1/8 in. angle iron. It boxed in the original rectangle tubing very nicely. The total extension was 9 in.. The axle I flipped over and so far looks like the sprockets will line up perfectly. I still have some reinforcing to do plus engine and brake caliper mounts. The later photos are of the tip turbine and some more of the turbo.

I say your over using the tip turbine, that things gonna drag your turbo way down. The trucks they use those tip turbines on have big turbos that can push it. Just use an oversized intercooler and run a fan on the intercooler. or run water/meth injection to keep combustion temps downs, that would give a nice power boost too. does microsquirt handle water/meth injection?

I think there is a setup to run water injection. I do believe I won't get much out of my turbo running the tip turbine off of it. I have been thinking of a way to adapt the tip tinine to be belt driven off the crankshaft. Or find a air cooled lister diesel or voltswagon style cooling fan. With 100 plus degree weather here its going to run hot. I had rather the engine run the fan mechanicaly than electrically so that the drain from the battery is not as high. Intercooler will be a way to go and I will probably use an adjustable thermostat to run the fan on it that way its not running constantly. Thanks for the advice. By the way the original GY6 engine is for sale in the classified section if anyone is interested.

I meant water and methanol, not just water. The expanding methanol can freeze your intake manifold until its covered in frost it can make the intake charge that cold, should solve your problem. As for running the fan off of the battery you could try upgrading the stator if possible. If you can do that then I wouldnt worry if you get a good quality lawn tractor battery and not too big of a fan. Not sure how the thermostat switch would work, might make the fan wear out quickly from kicking on and off everytime you come into boost and the intercooler heats up then cools down when you let off. Not trying to shoot you down or anything just tryin to help you consider everything possible.

Don't worry about shooting any of my ideas down. I will consider any suggestion. I do want to only run pump gas though. I haven't found many upgrade parts for this engine only oem parts mostly. I going to run a good sized battery but if you do not have the current output to sustain the battery than it will eventually deplete itself no matter what capacity. You probably allready know that though. The more I think about it the more I want to work on figureing out how to run a mechanically driven fan and once I have a belt drive per say I can run other accessories. Maybe an automotive alternator. Just ideas right now. The buggy is not being built for "what's the fastest I can make this thing go" but more of an adventure mobile. Lol. I do want to be able to punch the throttle and go though.
