We used to have edit time set to unlimited but people were going back and changing what they had said in the past. It got ugle for a while so we put in the 30 minute edit time to avoid people going back on their word.

A strong argument against the time limit is so you can go back and repeatedly update the original post. That IMO makes an event or review discussion easy to keep up with.

As long as the software product your using sends update emails on edits. Otherwise you're required to go back and read every post.
