hi peoples,
putting in the clutch and variator and sliders etc tomorrow night and need to know EXACTLY what size the big clutch nut is as trying to get the right size might be a issue... i need to know it now so i have time tomorrow at work before i take the buggy to my mates place to fit the goodies and find that we dont have it..

im in oz here remember size in mm... the biggest i have is 28mm and im not sure what he has, so i might need to scout for one..

i tried the 19mm on the variator with a ratchet and got nowhere, then tried to use a wheel brace to wedge between the stock variator fins to stop it turning as i was trying to undo it... well a fan blade snapped off... just as well i got the mrp one to go in..

SAHARA 250 CN 250 WITH THE 17MM NUT ON THE CLUTCH BELL- ITS THE BIG ONE UNDER IT I NEED TO KNOW..

thanx in advance guys...

Not to throw more variables into it, but I've seen that big nut be anything from 38mm to 41mm, depending on vehicle!

I've got 38 and 40mm impact sockets and one of those usually takes care of it for me. You might get luck with the 38!

Otherwise, a socket this big needs at least a 3/4" driver (or adapter from 1/2")

You may be able to clamp the the nut in a vise and use a strap wrench on the clutch assembly (this is the way I did my first torque spring replacement). Once you have it loosened, step down on the assembly and take the nut off by hand. There is a lot spring force behind that nut - Slowly release pressure to prevent injury.

I used a plumbers wrench to get the nut off. I sat in a chair, put my feet on the clutch to hold it secure. Then put a long hollow metal pipe over the wrench handle to increase its length and my leverage; worked like a charm.

You can also use the closest SAE size, if its easier, I do.
