hey guys i no this is far out in advance but i have my plan for the future of my buggy....so i no this plan will probably get broken up but here it is and give me any suggestions....ok so right now id like to and always talk about a engine swap but in all honesty its unrealistic so i am graduating high school this year and next year at college i am taking welding classes and will be taking classes on engines and the basics...so i have been researching the 600 suzuki gsxr 600 motors they r readily assesible bc they r always up for sale and do u think tht 600 would be a good fit for the joyner 250..i no its far out in advance but i just want to keep my eyes open for my plans so ill send some links how hard will this be how much will it cost and how much modifying do i have to do compared to jfredwetts swap tht used the same mounts...thanks guys and heres the links..

The GSXR 600 is a screaming power plant. I'd look at it a different way. The biggest issue, in my opinion, is that the gearbox/clutch/etc doesn't match up to the engine very well. I have to have reverse in any buggy that I own. So that's where I'd start. For that reason I think I'd look at the Polaris setups. They seem to be readily available and they work. Just my 2-cents.

I am with THog , on the joyner you will need reverse most likely. try looking for a bigger quad or dirt bike engine that has the chain on the right side. that will make the swap easier

Reverse is a great, however in the desert it's more of a convience. Ive never hooked up the reverse cable on the Dune swap. The main reason being that, with the Kinroad gearbox, it wasn't worth the risk. You guys on the other hand ride on small wooded trails, making it almost a necessity here ,with power, you got the space to spin a 180.

You can keep the reverse if you go with a Jefco or RPM gearbox. There are plenty of choices out there. That power plant will be perfect! Don't bother with the automatic part. Keep the gearbox that comes with the motor it will work better in long run. With that many rpm's, you would have to replace the belt to often.

I've been thinking about this as well. I'd like to hop mine up but I have to realistic of what I have. The frame isn't very strong, the brakes kinda blow, suspension is questionable... on and on.
So, the plan is to stick build a buggy using a larger four wheel drive four wheeler. Strong frame, full gauges, optional four wheel drive, 500cc or bigger motor, etc... Going to be some work but I think it would be way cool.
First I gotta finish my hot rod, a couple of custom bikes, re-do my kitchen... Wait! What am I talking about?? The buggy will come before the kitchen.

Yamaha 700 Raptor. Lots of power and reverse.

well thanks for all ur advice guys and gman is right about reverse and also i think if i was still living on the east coast a bigger motor wouldnt be nessecary...im from ny and tht will always be home but while im out in cali for my dads job i took up this hobby but anyways back to the motor on wooded trails i think a 250 is enough power becasue u cant go too fast but the in the desert u need tht speed but ur quad and dirtbike friends are always waiting up and with a bigger motor i can keep up i personally think the 600 gsxr motor will actually make the buggy faster then the dirtbikes and quads becuase those thing pump out 120 horses and redline at like 14k rpms haha but those would be tough to get in the buggy...so wat r u thinkin...go for the gsxr motor snowmobile motor or the quad motor like a raptor 660 or 700 all ur opinions id love thanks alot
