Was thinking today about basic speed, torque of 150 or 250cc buggies vs my 800cc buggy.... and thought that just because I have an 800cc buggy doesn't mean I can't be beat by a 150cc modded or perhaps high end stock buggy, right?
Example in car world, Porsche 4 cylinder turbo vs some misc 8 cylinder car... bigger engine may not always equate to faster car...

It all depends on what type of test you are talking about. In top speed your gonna be faster with the bigger cc in most all cases, now if your talking 300' there's a very good chance you could be taken by a heavily modded smaller cc buggy.

I was thinking about the later.... quick drag type race... thinking a nicely modded 150 or 250 could blow a heavy 800cc away on a quick drag...
I had a 260cc, but when I tried to upgrade to a sport clutch to get better take off, I spun the wheels only once before I had to replace several broken gears in the tranny... Was also wondering if the gear box of the more expensive 150 or 250cc models (mine was a GS Moon) could handle what ever type of torque you throw at them or do most gear boxes need to be upgrade to meet the torque output of the engine...

I had a Dodge Viper owner, A Corvette Owner, and a Cobra owner all tell me that at National Trails and Norwalk raceway park when we were staged in the 1/4mile..........needless to say it was quite the opposite. I know I had a heavily modded Turbo 4 cylinder car at the time that ran an 11 sec 1/4 mile consistently, but the looks on their faces when I just literally left them after around 300' was priceless. I will have to say tho that everyone of them was more then anxious to talk to me and gave me alot of respect, they just could not believe I produced that kind of power out of a 4 cylinder, and I was far from the fastest in our group.
Now with these smaller 150cc, i dunno about pullin something like that unless you heavily mod and I mean turbo and all, it prolly still wouldnt be able to do it. I mean your talkin 800cc I'm guessin that is upwards of 70mph or more??? I dont see a 150 or 250 doin it.

I don't know yet.. just got her last month and have probably only been about 30mph in 2nd gear... don't have a good straight even path to open her up on and haven't had a chance to travel or work on the trailer.... I've read others getting 65+mph... not sure what top speed any stock 800cc has reported...
the 400cc or 650cc Joyners spiders probably could give a 800cc some comp, no? They look pretty tough....
So I guess in buggy world, as opposed to the car and truck world, the bigger the engine the faster, is really the case unless turbo or nitro type modding is done on smaller buggies...

Depends on the frame and suspension too. The SS650 is just as heavy as the SV800 with less HP. The SV250 running against a HH250 will lose on a smooth course, but will excel on whoops. A GT250 will beat a HH250 until you need IRS for traction...
