As far as I know a lot of performance pipes for two strokes and fours just use a cone shaped from a fine stainless mesh for a spark arrestor, the tip of the cone faces towards the engine. Could be wrong just my 2 bits worth.

Carried out the mod last night to the exhaust. I cut the end cap off completely where it is welded. My exhaust has nasty cheap internals, where heaths has a punched mesh to keep the baffles in place (the punched tube I'm talking about is the part with all the real small holes in it) mine was crappy mild steel mesh like fly scrren wire, the disc that had to be punched out was welded in place so I just drilled a 1/2 inch hole in it. The core of mine (the fly screen part) was wrapped in what appeared to be asbestos (deadly stuff) with a fine layer of fibreglass underneath. I can't comment on power yet I'm yet to rejet and take it for a spin, but it sounds a lot better more like a performance 4 stroke exhaust. My g/f loves it ( she squeeled and ran round in circles saying how tough it sounds ) but then complained because I hadn't put the chromed guard back on it yet
