excuse my ingnorance on this matter...live in mesquite tx{dfw} area. din't know we needed any kind of "sticker/registration" on the buggies???also understood that any 250cc or bigger has to of met new 06 epa standards BEFORE they could be imported??? what gives??
most of us bitching in this thread is related to California smog regulations for registering off-road vehicles and the inconsistent experiences we encounter with our CA govt agencies. Typical rule of thumb is whatever kooky environmental law CA implements, the rest of the nation eventually follows As to 2006 EPA enforcement, I think that is an offshoot of what we currently deal with here, but I am not sure if it is really being enforced. Your best bet would be to check your state motor vehicle agency (ours is called DMV) to verify any questions on registering in TX.

OMG!!! Man, nice rig. I dig the visors on the lights and the double wide sleeper to boot. Looks like you could haul yours, your family's and all your friend's toys at once with that baby.
Check out this map: The Sultan Sea area has plenty of space. We usually ride just east of the Anza-Borrego state park off highway 78. Just head south on 86 till you see toy haulers and have fun, or continue south to 78 and head west about 12 miles to the Blue Inn, and San Felipe wash. Plenty of wide open space or ride in the park. It is not too much of a detour from I-10. I don't know anything about the Joshua Tree area to the north.
Hey Mick, Thanks for the compliments on my toy hauler/work truck...I first came to san diego about 4 years ago, and seen all the people in winterhaven, and decided I needed to do that!!! Not a lot of places to ride in South Texas. We Have a beach, but can't ride in the dunes. This Blue inn You refereed to is that a motel of sorts? It would be great if it was, I would stay a day or two in the middle of the week. Again thanks for the info!!! David

Blue Inn is a small roadside diner with a little store, a couple gas pumps, and propane refueling & dumping for RVs. I think they also have a year round storage lot for RVs too. It is on hyy 78 in Ocotillo Wells in the middle of the OHV State Vehicle Recreation Area. There is another small eatery called Desert Rose, a small airport and a few repair shops that all cater to the off-road crowd. That OHV park is our main riding area and the wife and I are finally making our 1st desert trip of the season next weekend and taking the new Dune 150 to check out.

Het turbotexas, RDnutZ is correct regarding the Blu-in (correct spelling, I think), however, if you continue west, for a few more miles (maybe 10?), there is an RV park called the Desert Ironwoods on the left. They have a small motel and the riding is just accross the highway. Here is the information:
Hey Guys thanks for all the info and compliments... My Mom taught me to look before you leap... I have few options once I point this truck down a two lane road. It takes 5 lanes for a U-Turn... I will check into the motel option. During the week is better for availability. I got my rollers shaved down. ordererd new shocks and tires and hope to try the dunes in a few weeks. Thanks Again, David

Looks like I'm going to get my 2006 Twister Hammerhead 250 after all...
"Poor Ed's" out of White City, Oregon is selling and shipping me their floor model (no miles) for a fair price ($3,899). Going to save some $$$ by paying the $30 for an Oregon OHV permit AND registering it in my sister's name who lives in Stayton, OR. Also saving money buying in Oregon as there is NO SALES TAX in that state. After 2 years of Oregon registration, I can register it in CA for little to no $$.
Sounds good in theory. I let you all know how it works out. FnkyPhantom
