Hey guys, I just painted my buggy and replaced rollers, belt, intake, exhaust, plus freshened up a ton of other things, but in the process I lost the key! There are red, black, and blue wires coming out of the ignition, which ones need to be connected? I was planning on converting to a push-buttom system anyways, but now I cant test the connections! Help!

put the red and blue wires together, if that doesnt work, go to the starting relay and put a screwdriver over the 2 posts, it should start cranking, and should start.

socal50 my switch is a three wire switch.my colors are white red stripe wire ,this wire is hot all the time, black wire and purple wire.
the white red stripe wire make contact with black wire and it starts.when i shut the switch off it falls back on purple wire killing power to cdi,my purple wire runs back to cdi.

check and see if the blue wire from switch goes to the cdi.
if so it should be the red and black wire thats makes it go
va-room.
without a switch how do you plan on shutting it off, unless you have a push button kill switch already?
not sure if this will help you but thats the way mine starts and shuts down by switch.

You are the MAN! I owe you big, so in the off position you have black connected with purple, correct?

I am going to try this out tomorrow. Thank you very much.

well the tumblers in the switch take care of that but when you shut switch off the black ground wire kills power to cdi through the purple wire going to cdi.
when starting my white red striped wire with black wire make the solenoid circuit and it starts.
i would check and make sure i told you wright and your blue goes to cdi.
the red wire hot
and the black wire ground.
i wouldn't want you to short out your cdi.
good luck

dirty diaper I hope I didn't already wrech the cdi... I connected black to red and it started to crank. The wires were just laying around, then I tried again and nothing. So I started charging the battery, but now there is nothing. No cranking or anything, would the motor not crank if the CDI got fried?
