Looking for some advice from you folks. Recently bought baja reaction 150 and it drove great the first couple of hours we used it. Parked it for close to a week and when driven again the tranny would occasionally bang and seem to recatch. I completely drained the gear oil and refilled as specified. Issue persisted and then it gave out completely in forward gear. Had to drive it back to house in reverse. I took it back to store and got a refund. I am thinking of buying another as my daughtr really loved it but I am wondering if this is a common issue or simply a lemon. It was driven in a field with field grass that was mostly packed down but as per the manual for break in I didn't even take it above half throttle. Could this field have caused the problem? At no point did the kart seem to be laboring while driving in this area but I am wondering how delicate these machines are. Should they be driven on mostly flat compact trails? While I wouldn't be able to peddle a bike through the field it didn't strike me as being a place that would fry the tranny. Any suggestions and thoughts would be appreciated as I need to make a decision soon. thank you.

the field wasnt your problem, i use mine on the farm every day, i go up 80 degree hills all the time, and i dog the dirty diaper out of it and it keeps going. i would haft to get more information on what was happening to diagnose your problem. but i know the field is not your problem. these buggies should go anay where 4 wheeler can go. or at least mine can

people takes these things in some ridiculous places up wicked steep hills and through deep mud and water. i doubt driving through a field would cause you to fry the tranny. i have never heard of this problem happening so i would say it was prob just a lemon but i dont own one personally so i cant say for sure. and another thing i dont think most people on here follow the break in procedure they just drive it like they stole it right out of the box.
i guess i type too slow. funindamud beat me to it

I'm sorry to hear of your bad experience with the Reaction 150. Sadly, trouble staying in gear is a moderately common problem with the Reactions.
You don't say where you're located, but you should try to locate a buggy dealer in your area that sells Carter, Joyner, Blade, or Hammerhead buggies. These area all quality brands that have many fans here on these boards. They may cost a little more up front, but you'll most likely save much more in the long run through better quality parts and construction and fewer headaches.
Lemons can come from any make or model, but it happens far less with those brands.

good point dog, the breakin period is essential to the long life of the motor. if you do not let the motor break in the cylinder and rings will wear more and unevenly.

Thanks everyone. I live in Stroudsburg PA. I should also mention that I would be getting the baja for well below msrp. $900 plus tax to be precise. Given the reduced price would it still be worth the extra coin for one of the more reliable models? I would imagine I would be paying close to double that on most of the other types mentioned. Thanks again.

I say take the money and run. I went through a 3 month battle with Baja before they issued a refund. If you look up the topic "Does Costco Baja Reaction already have 10g rollers" you can get enough info to make your decision. Buggies are high maintenance, when you couple that with cart that are prone to mechanical failure, it can take the fun away, in a hurry.
