Pat,
If it is a true Baja Dune 150 (looks like my old one) it will have the howit engine, if it is the mixed dune/reaction buggy then it could have multiple types.

Thanx monk- The head, cam, cylinder and exhaust (orientation) are different in the howhit right? Is it AC or DC CDI? Actually a better question may be what kind of mods did you do with yours Monk ....and what worked best? A friend just picked this up for his kids (doesn't run yet) but I see it has 22 inch tires and what looks like the smaller 32 sproket (was too lazy to count) - Pat

Does your friends engine have the 2 or 4 bolt valve cover?

That's great!
All the popular mods should work.
Just make sure you get engine parts for non-howhit.

How's the electrical?

Pat,
Well im not too sure on the ac or dc, electrical items are not a strong point for me.

As for the mods, its kinda hard to tell, since I did most of them all at once. However I can tell you that I put the 155 kit, head and a11 cam in and it really stepped it up from the normal CVT and carb mods. The other one I would suggest right away is the 39 tooth sprocket. I also ran 22;s in the rear.

Another important and great mod for that buggy is the front suspension upgrades. Change over to the 14mm ball joints, 10" wheels and some better shocks and it will ride like a caddy.

Have your buddy read through the thread for my Dune rebuild. It has lots of good info and some links to others dune projects like racemybuick and gmanlv's 250 transfermation. If you have any questions just ask!!!

?? The Howhit is a standard GY6 with the biggest difference = larger valves in the 4-bolt head--which makes that head a popular swap onto other brands.

blknight42 I have a howit that was running when removed from the buggy and enough parts to assemble a second engine plus many many parts belts clutches reverse tranny. The engine removed from the Buggy is a big bore. I live in Mesa AZ and you are in Arizona. I do not want to do shipping. If interested I'll take $225.00

Spook- sounds like a good deal... But the buggy isn't mine and his issue isn't the motor. (yet) So far it's a no spark issue and all diagrams I have seen for it don't even resemble what I am looking at. (diagram shows 5 wires where there is only a possability of three... routed differently, etc. etc..)

If you can get a list together.. I will mention it to him and since I will eventually put a BB kit on my grandaughters Kinroad (and prefer a spare block to machine) We may want to go together on the parts. What size bore is on the engine now and is it 2 or 4 bolt? -Pat

Anyone know.. wasn't it the 2 bolt howlet that had the big valves? (my memory sucks)

Pat,
Mine had the regular 4 bolt cover and larger valves in it.

Spook,
Where have you been, hows the new set-up working in your Dune.

edroden,
No need to get snotty with people...john was working on Yerf's and Dunes well before most of us and knows alot about them. Taking advice and info is just as important as giving it.

That's cool.
I don't mind being corrected, It's how we all learn.
It's just that you see a post that ask for advice, the experienced guys sit on the sidelines until someone gives advice, then they jump in to tell you how you're wrong.
