I know... I know. I've got issues. Got rid of my GTS 250 just this week, and then guess what? Somehow just bought a 250 SS today. Weird right.
Anywho, I couldn't really pass this one up. Love at first sight I tell you lol. It's in real good, and I mean very good shape. Seats are perfect. Some surface rust here and there(I'm sure will polish out), cracked rubber boot on the steering, and some rust on the front plate from some scratches through the paint. BUT.....she only had 62 miles on her when I bought it. 4 more miles since I've brought her home. She's great and good to go.
I do have the rear fenders and brackets, but the brackets have snapped and will need to be welded before I can install the rear fenders.
The SS doesn't seem to have the power of the GTS I've noticed. But that could be because I ported the intake, had a bigger main jet and Uni filter on the GTS. The GTS 250 also had a different stock pipe and muffler. We'll see later on,but for now she's stock at the moment.
I like the wheels and the paint better than the GTS 250, also the speakers are a nice touch. Haven't hooked up anything to listen to yet. The seats are in way better shape than the GTS seats were, but I think the GTS seats look better.

Thanks sockman. Last night,I polished the headlight lenses and installed the LED bulbs I had for the GTS. They work nice, but 1 has the low beam out. They have to send me another one. And what's weird is the hi lo are reversed on these Chinese bulbs lol. I'll have to post pics later
Also appear to have a caliper sticking on the front passenger side, it's causing drag and pull to the right. I'll be fixing that today hopefully.

Got the caliper to release by just greasing the slide pins. Also reverse bled the entire brake system and got all the old cloudy orange fluid out and replaced with DOT 3 synthetic. Stopped good before the bleed, stops even better after.
Just have to change the transmission and engine oil next. And a NGK iridium plug.
Cannot seem to get it past 40mph in high, and 26-27 in low. Feels like it runs out of steam going up a slight hill on the neighborhood street. Maybe the engine is not broken in yet. Did get some popping after a top speed run. I'm sure I'll get to the air filter, jetting, and work on porting the intake this week. I hope.
Not a big fan of the shifter. I'm trying to be as gentle as I can as to not damage any components connected to it. I usually will rock the buggy back and forth while pressing the brake and it will click into reverse or low, this method appears to work the best.
Still just enjoying having the 250 SS as a new toy.

They are tricky to shift. Neutral and high are easy enough to shift between, but low and reverse are always a little fussy. Usually have to blip the throttle a little bit, then as it's idling back down, shift into gear. Works pretty well. Just make sure your problem isn't in the shifter itself. That safety mechanism with the brake can sometimes mess you up.

I may have to practice your method. Sometimes it seems like it doesn't get into high and slips some. I usually stop and try to re-engage high.
My front still seems to drag some, so I ordered a new passenger caliper. Hopefully this will solve the issue.
Changed the engine and transmission oil. They both looked like they had both been changed very recently, but oh well. It has M1 synthetics now.
The coolant in the radiator and lines was awful. I mean black. Filled several jugs flushing it all out. Took over an hour to get it all clean. It was the worst I've ever seen, but it's clean now.
Ported and polished the intake manifold and upjetted the carb. Put it all back together and could smell fuel. Looked underneath the buggy and there was a puddle. Knew I should have checked the float and needle when I had it off, but it ran with no issues before. Took the carb back off and the float needle had some corrosion on it and was not letting it function and was dumping fuel out the overflow. Easy to clean and fix.
Removed the factory airbox and duct. Installed a K&N filter.
I tried to use the factory duct with the filter to help quiet it down some, but it was a no go. Just starved it for air. Installed the filter directly to the carb and no issues. Fires up very quickly when you turn the key. It's just really loud when your riding with the sound coming directly through the seats from the carb now. But it's got more power now.
Am getting some noise from the cvt clutch area since I bought this, though maybe a broken spring. Removed the cover and it looks like a new belt 868 24.2 30 has been installed. It's a no name, not a Mitsuboshi. The belt looks loose to me and measures 23.5mm with the caliper, and there is some belt dust in the cvt area and cover. When you give it gas the belt flexes on top and bottom wildly. It appears the belt is hitting the cvt cover and making the noise. I drove it without the cover on the street for a quick test, and the noise wasn't there. So I guess I need to order another belt too.
Neverending I tell ya......neverending....

Popping out of gear? Is that due to the shifter slopping around, or in the trans? Is the shifter safety mechanism working as it should? I also found that I had a lot of slop in the pins in the shifting linkage and that made it hard to cycle thru all the gears. I think I drilled the holes out to one size larger pin so that there wasn't as much play and that helped.

Thanks, and don't worry. The intake still has texture, it's not glass like smooth lol.

It's not popping out of gear, it's just slipping some. When I stop and re engage high, it seems to work. Could be sloppiness in the shifter, not sure just yet.
Drilled holes in the connectors? Pics?

There's a pin right behind the shifter, and then another at the transmission. I found that the pin was worn, AND the hole was getting wallered out. So when you moved the shifter, it really had to go quite a ways before it actually engaged the transmission, if that makes sense. I put bigger pins in. That won't keep it from slipping in/out of gear, just takes the slop out of shifting. Again, if your brake/shifting safety mechanism is working right, the shifter won't move unless you put your foot on the brake.

And I hear ya regarding the noise. When the UNI is right on the carb, you really hear that thing.

EBay. Around $5 each shipped. I'll post a pic or link later when I get home on this post.

Edit: Here is a pic of the same type of LED bulb I used. You can find them cheaper than this pic. The low beams are not too bright, but that's what I wanted. Didn't want to blind oncoming cars in the neighborhood, the ones on my GTR 300 are too bright high or low. The brights on these are pretty good. I plan on some roof lights for when really bright light is needed.

I figured you were talking about the rod with the pins. I'll check it out later on today if I get the chance. Thanks.

Ordered a Kevlar belt yesterday. Never used one before and decided to try one out. Any opinions or feed back on these?
The brake caliper came in. I guess I wasn't paying attention and order a smaller one. It fit my son's Kandi 110 buggy though, so I guess I'll throw it in the spare parts container for his lol.

I'm hesitant using the Kevlar belt because it may move a stressed situation to another more expensive component. If I run too tall a tire in sand, I snap belts in my CFmoto (this is why I run the short 20" paddles). If the belt does not wear or snap when over stressed what will? Team Farm melted his pulleys in the Carter GTR riding on sand when he used a Kevlar belt and he didn't even run paddles which would have had more bite...

Now you've got me scared of the Kevlar belt. I guess I'll just try it to see if it helps out any and try to order another cvt belt.
