Is the Hammerhead GTS 250 still being produced? I have to ask because there's a used one I'm going to go look hopefully at and it's listed as a 2015,but I can find nothing on the interwebz for that year listed under current models. Thanks.

I really doubt they were still importing them in 2015. It's possible they sit somewhere before they are sold and the year they are sold is then known as it's model year.
What's your concern? There's still a reliable parts source for them. Pretty reliable buggy.

Just like to know as much as I can about something before I pay for it. And when you search about it and it finds nothing for that year, just makes one curious. I just figured it was a left over from previous years and was just sold in 2015. Didn't know if there was a way to decipher the VIN and tell what year it was or not. I do like that parts are readily available from multiple places. Do any members here currently own a GTS 250 and what are their opinions? Thanks for the reply Sockman.

I hear ya. I like to know what I'm buying, too. As far as I can tell, the VIN is useless to us. Maybe there's some kinda chinese VIN decoder. Ha!
I don't remember what all the differences were from the 250SS. They had different plastics. The seats were nicer. I think it was still the CFMoto with hi/lo and IRS. Now, they no longer import the CFMoto 250, so the transmission parts are getting harder to find. The cylinder and all that other stuff is still serviceable.
I'll shut up now since I don't have one.

Did they quit importing the cf250 due to tighter emissions? Is the tranny pretty tough?
I think that is probably the case, but PGH might know more about the emissions thing. Regarding the transmissions, they're fine. It's driver error that causes issues, like trying to shift on the fly. That CFMoto is in the Hammerhead and the Joyner 250 and they're probably the best buggies in that class (for different reasons).

It is hard getting any of the carbureted motors to pass the current emission tests which is why everything is going fuel injected. Companies like Kinroad dropped out of our market even though they still sell overseas for this reason. Now that Hammerhead is owned by Polaris, it will be interesting if they revive a dual range CVT engine that runs cleaner (Polaris converted the current Mini RZR to FI). There are some companies still selling carbureted buggies, but they have dangerously leaned out the engines or are fudging their tests will eventually get caught.
I know Joyner had this same problem with their 250 and 650 when they lost their distributor in the US (the distributor held the certifications and were lost in the bankruptcy). Trying to certify under stricter standards proved difficult resulting in Joyner only bring back FI engines.
The CFmoto 250 with dual range CVT is awesome and allows the 250 to do more than any conventional single range CVT engine close to the same displacement. I plan on keeping my street licensed SV250 and even have a complete spare engine for it, but I will be selling other SV250 because the issued title is tainted with an off-road only use designation.
From the crank up, the CN250 and CFMoto share parts. If you take care of the final transmission and cases, there is no reason to worry about parts in the near future. The Joyner Lince 250 and SandViper 250 are still sold in limited quantities in Europe - This means chassis parts for my Joyner are still available, but it also means CFmoto parts will be available for Joyner and Hammerhead 250 owners.

Good info to know. I like the 250/150 class size buggies. Easier to load up, and can get in and out of tight spaces. Fast and strong enough for the trails and powerline areas around here.

Wow. Appreciate your knowledge on this subject. I knew emissions were getting stricter, but I think it's ridiculous to make testing strict for small engines like these. I'm not a tree hugger, but there are plenty of other areas they could cut emissions and actually make a difference. My son got a 2015 Kandi 110 buggy for Christmas. I noticed all the extra emissions junk all the newer stuff has now. Even the carb was sealed, and you couldn't change the jets or adjust the A/F. I, of course removed all said junk and bought a new carb that I could tune. Also had to get another K&N style filter without a hose coming out of the end. It's nice to know there will be parts still around for later repair or replacement for the Hammerhead 250 ,this has been a real headache for me on the Carter GTR. While I do like FI and what it does better than a carburetor, the cost of repairs/upgrades compared to carbs is a bit more pricey and not totally worth it to me yet. Hopefully the FI kits will come down a lot in price in the future and I'll buy a couple then.

You see more Chinese scooters with FI now days than in the past. I would love to see a throttle body injection kit that bolts up to the CN/CF for a reasonable price but may have to wait for more wrecked FI scooters and scrounge parts from one of them.

I like the way you think.

Keep an eye out for wrecked Kymco 300i scooters. I sure hope this does not encourage any of you to hunt Kymcos down on the street - They are not in season.

Update: I text the guy 5 days ago and no response. All of a sudden I get a phone call while at lunch with the family today and it was him asking if I was still interested in it. He informed me that everything works and was in great condition ,but it was muddy and a wheel hub had broken. I was like sure, I'd like to come out and see it first. It was an hour away,so me and a buddy grabbed the trailer and headed out a few hours later. Well when I first saw it, I wasn't falling in love to say the least. It had broken the rear passenger side hub all around and the wheel was sitting on the ground beside the axle. It also had been in a roll over and the wood on the seat bottoms was crumbling. The roll bars are bent to the side too. He said he washed it before we got there, lets just say I couldn't have imagined it before as it still looked pretty dirty. It did fire right up and ran like a top,and went into all the gears when we picked it up and stacked 2 wheels under the rear. The shifter has been rigged and will probably need replaced. Had a couple of rattles when throttled, but was just loose or missing bolts. All the switches worked, but the horn. And a push button start had been added, but it started when you turned the key too. The rear fenders are cracked, and he gave me a spare set of fenders for the rear. But they were for the previous style Hammerheads. In the end, we decided to get it and have another project for later this year. Looks like it needs a hub just to drive, and the rest is cosmetics. So now I'm in the Hammerhead GTS 250 Owners Club. Don't have any good pics yet, just the one from the listing.

Welcome to the HH club.
As for the transmission you will need to have it under load to make sure that low gear is in good shape. If the gears are bad when it is pulling like when your taking off or climbing a hill it will jump out of gear or grind. As for rear hub I have never seen one completely broken, just bent. Not sure how he would have done that.
Thanks guys. Yep Papa, nothing left around the center of the rear hub. I'd post a pic of it, but I left it in his yard by accident. I still wanted it because of the lug-nuts and studs, but I'm not going to go get it because it's a 2 hour round trip. Oh well,I was going to have to get another one anyways, and new studs and nuts couldn't hurt. I went out today and it cranked up very quickly and smoothly. Put Sta-Bil in the gas tank and shook it around. Turned off the fuel petcock and let it run dry. Took the battery(9lbs.?) off and put it on the maintainer in the garage. Looks to be a fairly new battery too. Threw a tarp over it in the shed where it's parked and will get to it later this summer.

I was working on the right rear swing arm on my HH and look what I found.

So it looks like my hub had been broken off as well and the prior owner had welded it back together.
I found this one on KNMparts that shows a solid rear hub. I'm going to order one. This one looks like a more reliable part than the one with the spokes.
What's funny is, that the guy I bought the GTS 250 from also looked to have welded the hub back together like that too. And it broke the welds. Passenger side rear? Good find on that solid hub Sockman. I'm about to look it up and check it out.

Yep, same side as yours. I could see it happening if someone was trying to take a hard powerslide on that side. That would put a lot of stress on that hub.
