Stumbled across this forum and looks like I will be spending quite a few hours on this site. Great info and knowledge here for sure. I will get some pics tomorrow, only have one of my Dad sitting in it yesterday after I picked it up.

Looking to eventually build a decent performing naturally aspirated 650. It should run better than it does, I know it's heavy but looks like there is quite a bit left after looking at the carb/intake setup.

Welcome. I'm not sure what your title says, but you have a 2006 model. It should have the heavier 12mm lug nuts, standard integrated gauge, high flow exhaust and intake and larger chrome fuel tank.

thanks pgh, yes it is a 2006 model. I will get some pics today, I have a small powdercoating booth at my house, and there is a lot of much needed work

Seems like 4th gear doesn't rev out too good, I did some reading on here about the 06's being a little taller geared. I was trying to find some posts on basic performance mods without doing too much. I build raptor 660's porting/engine work, etc so I will be going full throttle into the engine at a later date.

I thought about plugging the vacuum advance today and capping the vacuum line on carb, as well as timing it mechanically 6-8 degrees

pulling off the intake manifold and doing a quick little clean up porting, removing the castings a little and polishing it up.

I have a bunch of jets so I can play with the main jet a little after porting it.

The exhaust welding where it goes two into one is hideous, and the flow is definitely hurt there as well.

I adjusted the throttle stop, the previous owner never touched it and they were only getting half throttle lol

I know how to use the search function, so I will be looking for some jetting advice today ( I am also very familiar and have a few carbs laying around for our drag/dune bikes) Dual 39 FCR's ( they work on our raptors up to 100 hp to the rear wheels) Even the stock dual 33's would be an upgrade for this, I can get a big bore raptor to almost 70hr by modding hhe stock carbs. I have some of those laying around here somewhere...

reading up on CV's now, I need to get boots for everything, they are all cracked or at least brittle... looking for a place to order now. I also have an intermittent clicking on the drivers side, so I'm guessing cv needs replaced, has about 1900 miles on it now...

going to drop the oil today, picked up a mobil 1 filter today that I saw was a cross reference and short enough to fit. Need to find a post with oil capacity...

There are a couple different manual in the form that shows 2.9L includes oil filter.

Thank you Ghost and everyone for the warm welcome. We usually hit up the Cinders twice in the summer, Memorial and Labor day weekend. Never done it in a buggy. Been going there since the 80's. it had a crusty sun rotted uni foam filter, so I looked in my filter inventory and grabbed a k&n and threw it on...


got it all registered fully street legal as well as insured today through allstate, so I took my daughter on a date


Put in some new spark plugs today, need to flush coolant tomorrow, and a fresh oil change. Noticed when I'm turning left I have a popping sound from the rear end... CV boot and axle time it looks like

Nice video,that stock carb is junk.You should probably replace that axle on drivers side.New boots and repack passenger side.JB says Moly 100 is the best cv grease.Ghost

Plus you will love Cinders in a buggy,ride all day and no monkey butt.On the headlights read here on BN about LEDs only way to fly,alot more light and less amperage,reasonable too.Ghost

Thanks Ghost I will definitely end up rebuilding the rear end. I see a lot of different options for boots on here, which do you prefer? LEDs look like the hot lick for sure... Was just reading up on them, a lot of great info on here with great support, thank you

Started flushing the coolant... not sure if it was ever changed... on my third round of distilled water!!!

Picked up two fram filters and one wix filter, the cheap frams are just for oil flushing, going to mut a few miles on it, change it etc and switching over to semi-synthetic oil... Had to loosen the rear motor mounts and pry the engine up so I could spin on the filter. Got rid of the charcoal cannister... looks like the radiator cap is leaking so I will be in the market for one of those as well. I think I saw an automotive crossover for that, as well as the Gas cap, not sure what the previous owner put on there but it doesn't really fit and it is not a locking cap.

Hi raptor,Jmc should have both those caps.Don't sell the Fram filter short,thats all i ever used.I have had no problems with stock boots.Jbquadrider is using a Honda quad boot he likes.Ghost

I flushed out the coolant about 8 times... it was pretty nasty, i'm a little worried about all the corrosion I found and I couldn't take looking at the stock carb any more... I grabbed a 660 raptor carb I modified a little to feed one of the old 60 hp bikes and looked at it. here it is up to the stocker


It is a dual mikuni 33. I know nobody has done it before but I want to work on general maintenence (as well as axle/cv upgrade being my first big purchase) I will try it and let you know how it goes, I'm heading out to the garage to build a manifold right now.

I'm not new to building manifolds, this is one I built for a buddy... I actually went from dual carbs to a big 48mm flatslide HSR carb, it runs great
