Well been doing a few things to the YXZ, added a ALBA heavy flywheel which really helps hold the gear longer, smooths out the shifts & low speed crawling. Had the Yamaha shop drop the clutch activation from 1800 RPM to 1600 ( they could only go 10% + or - max) This helps the low speed crawling from 6MPH to about 5MPH wanted 1000RPM but best I could get.
Fabricating new dash for GPS & accessories, added 4 point harnesses & a lighted wip.

Hey JB,looks great, that flywheel looks humongous.Did you do the work or did Yamaha.I guess with paddle shifters, there's no easing in and out of the gears. Ghosthunter

Funny thing, the wife says see cannot believe all the money we spent and now were spending more.I said you just bought a 29M dollar car,and then you had to buy a dash mat.Whats the difference.Ghost

Steve, I have to ask just what kind of GPS system are you putting in that. Have been wanting to get something like that just don't know which way to go. It seems that with these rigs you are not afraid to get out away from camp further then I did with the Chinese buggies. Not saying that something can't happen but they do seem to be a lot more reliable.

Papa
I took the Lowrance Baja 540c out of the buggy & transferred it to the Yamaha. I have had this for 9 years & these were & are used by most off-road racing teams they really take a beating. They no longer make or support these (can't get any new maps) but here's a link to the replacement ones http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Products/ ... en-us.aspx Might be able to get them cheaper on Ebay or Amazon (I paid 500 for mine they have actually gone down in price) They are great units made for off-road & tough.
As far as trusting our buggies....I don't :D I probably carried 200lbs of parts with me (frnt spindles L&R, two axles, tie-rods, plugs ignition module, nuts & bolts even brought a spare trans in the truck) Don't miss this at all one of the many reasons I switched.

Ah Papa, come to the darkside, your father is calling.JB asked that post some pictures of the dual battery set up,i just installed. The stater coils put out 33 amps at idle and 40 amps at 5000 rpm.So with adding winch and a light bar it would be good to have extra battery.Ghost

File comment: This is marine isolator, you can charge two batteries at once.It will not let main battery run dead.No matter how much you run down both batteries ,you will still be able to start the buggy.

This is aux. battery, both batteries are the same size.I do not recommend Yamaha wiring kit.The kit is made up for two applications (extra battery and cargo box).I could not see putting tools and cloths, cold drinks in with battery in the cargo box.So i just went with battery box, because of this and poor instructions i had wires with wrong ends.Wires too short to long.If i had to do over again, just measure up what wire you need, buy the terminals and go for it.Ghost

Hi JB,i would have to go out in the shop and look, but i did not like this isolator(kind of flimsily}.I would get small epoxy marine isolator, with terminals on the front. Its well protected in the box with dry sump oil tank and their is plenty of room.If you want to run your big blue battery, this system will still work. The isolator you get with kit the wires hook up in back (no room)and with light weight battery cables a real wrestling match. Saw Wellers Racing YXZ buggy they ran in the King of The Hammers. They had two extinguishers up in the ceiling. So i copied them, only using one.If this thing falls conks me in the head, there's only one guy to blame and its not Weller Racing.Ghost

Hi JB,yes it is.I ran self drilling set screw through the heavy bracket,(besides the clamps) in to roll cage so it will not twist down.Plus bunggie so it won't rattle.Ghost

Guys I already went to the dark side before you guys did. I just went with a different flavor. This is more suited to the area where I ride. I did install a 4500 lb winch that can't be seen in the pics.

The 120hp would be nice but have to admit I don't miss the clutch and having to shift. In the areas I mostly ride it would be more of a PITA then not. Out where you guys ride I can see where it is fun. And as you know Will I like hand shakers, my truck is a 6 spd manual. I do ride with a bunch of guys that have the 1000 with over a 100hp and have to admit in tight woods they can't get away from me and I haven't yet come to a hill where I said boy I sure wish I had another 25hp  For rock crawling and slow technical riding it is one less thing to have to worry about.

Ah Papa, have not found one application were the automatic was just a lazy convenience,i still say if you had a clutch at the top of that hill you would not of went over. But thats just an old racer and truck driver talking. You own 10 acres is your tractor automatic. I learn to drive out in woods of Oregon on logging roads, paths whatever you want to call them. Peterbuilt with Cummins,13 speed, spliter, with a Brownie,76speeds. Pulling a low boy with a D-9 Cat,i could go anywhere. Ghost
