Post subject:  Kinroad Petcock Replacement

Hello....its been a long time since I've posted due to a deployment to Afghansitan. I'm glad to be home but while I was gone the kids broke the petcock on the Kinroad Runmaster 250 somehow. I'm looking to replace it with a manual style petcock. I was hoping someone on here has done this before and knows the exact sizes and parts I will need. I looked at the local big box stores earlier tonight with no luck.

Thanks ahead of time gents.

Mine is a 3/8 thread. I just put a 90 ell on it installed a 3/8 ball valve reduced that to 1/4 in and hookeed up to carb.

In that post it mentions there being two different threads and last night at Home Depot I tired the 3/8" ball valve but the threads seems a little different. I dont want to strip the leads or have fuel leaking. Where did you purchase your ball valve and elbow and did the fit perfectly? Also, did you use teflon tape or anything to avoid leaks?

Thanks for that link.

Use the yellow Teflon tape. I still have some spares, if you do not find them locally.

I dont mind using teflon as long as it works.....how do i tell the difference in the straight and tapered thread lol. All it feels like is that it is trying to cross thread and I didnt want to do that.

My 300 has a plastic petcock, have only used it once and it seemed to work fine then, stopped what I thought was a gas drip. Not sure who of motion427 or whatharley, the previous owners, installed it. Two things I like, it's mounted in the gas line on the side of the luggage rack - really easy to get to, it turns without a lot of force - I turned many a motorcycle petcock to Reserve by feel, this turns much easier. Just my $.02.

Tapered thread is cut at an angle instead of 90 degrees to the pipe. If the thread pitch is the same, it should work with Teflon or pipe sealant.

American Power Sports or BMI Karts sell the petcocks TeamBrown is using.

Bige (McDonough Power sports) sells a petcock that screws into your gas tank. I bought one for my buggy and it works great.

**update**

I ended purchasing a 3/8" petcock and a 90 degree elbow from home depot. I just installed it this evening and it looks pretty spiffy! What did you guys do with the vacuum line that was attached to the bottom of the stock petcock and runs to that "Y" adapter? I was thinkin about taking that entire hose off and plugging the hole. Thanks for the help and getting us back on the road!
