This might sound stupid, but I've gotta ask. Can you put a sprocket on the variator's output shaft, to drive a jackshaft? Would that put to much stress on the output shaft?

I saw a hack-sawed GY6 with centrifugal clutch and sprocket directly off the crank (variator shaft). You would be stuck with one gear with no way to change the ratio.

Not sure I understand gear ratio then. You're familiar with the xtx set-up right, each wheel is chain driven? I'm wondering if you put a sprocket on the variator shaft, and ran a chain to a jackshaft with a large sprocket.
Yes, but it's chain driven off of the *clutch* side, allowing for the CV transmission to work the way it's supposed to.
Like Peter said, if you ran it off the variator, you would be limited to however fast the variator shaft was spinning and your torque / power would always be at the same level. (and in all likelihood not where you want/need it to be!)
Basicly an old school yard cart set up, just going to a jack shafts instead of a wheel. You could change the gears through the sprokets but your still stuck with just those gears. Maybe you could run it to a comet system
