I've made comments about my Twister Hammerhead II 150 in different places on this forum, so I won't re-hash all those comments.
I just broke the 200 hour mark (I have an ENM tach/hourmeter) on my buggy, and I thought I'd leave a few comments for others that might buy a buggy in the future.
I am very pleased with it's performance and reliability. I've made some mod's and changed the transmission gears to a lower ratio so I have more low end grunt for towing a small trailer around the farm. I don't baby my kart, and use it as an "ATV substitute" on my small farm. After the gearing change, it is a good match for how I use it. The 40mph+ gears were a little too tall for my farm use - although it worked OK for most of those 200 hours. I tow a small box trailer around with tools, parts, and equipment on the farm, and the lower gearing is a much better match to this task.
I have used my buggy so much on rough terrain that I wore out the lower suspension arm bushings up front. I replaced those. I had the original muffler rattle apart. I think TJ now has that problem under control. Here's my overall comments after living with this thing for the past year and 200 hours run time...
I would buy this kart all over again. TJ Powersports makes a good product! In fact, I would not trade my 150 for most of the 250's out there. The only 250's that I've been impressed with so far are the Twister Hammerhead 250 (no surprise there since TJ puts out a good product - as I've seen with my 150). I also like the Dazon 250, and I like the looks of the newer Joyner 250 with rear independent suspension. Those machines are all appealing to me, but I don't know that they would serve me any better than my good ole trusty 150.
If you are thinking about buying a kart, then I'd highly recommend the TJ Powersports Twister Hammerhead 150. I've got 200+ hours run time to back up my good impression, and looking to get another 2000 hours out of it!
The engine runs strong and with the oil filter and oil cooler, should last for many more hours. On a related note... If he is located in your area, I'd also recommend buying a TJ Powersports product from a dealer like Ray at Reliable Go Karts. http://www.reliablegokarts.com/ Or if you already own a TJ kart, then Ray is a great place to get parts. I've ordered parts from him on different occasions and received outstanding service. There are so many "dud dealers" out there that offer lousy (or non-existent) service, that I think it's important to point out the ones that really shine and know how to run a business.
