I have been having trouble with my 2 seater starting and idling after it has warmed up - I figured it was in bad need of valve adjustment. (first time I have even checked it after almost 3 years of use!)
I had to adjust both of them quite a bit to get the feeler guage in - used the .005. I am still trying to get the airscrew and idle adjusted out - I have been adjusting these a lot to try to remedy the starting/idling problems.
It starts easily and idles pretty good but there is a lot of valve chatter constantly - even after it has warmed up. Did I adjust them too much??
BTW I am sure it was TDC with both valves closed when i adjusted them.

Tim

check your intake for leaks on the starting and idling problem.i know when i adjust the valves on my buggy i have to set intake valve at .003 and exhaust valve at .005 if i go any more then that i get a valve shatter.i know guys say different but i can't get by with it on this two bolt valve cover style head.
just my thoughts

I pulled the carb recently, flushed it, cleaned it, and checked the vacuum lines and didn't find any signs of leaks. I initially thought it was an intake leak or a clogged jet - it just seemed to be running lean at idle and then very hard to start after warmed up. I am sure these problems were due to the valves. I was having to run it with the airscrew closed and the idle cranked up till the spring bottomed out. Turns out it wasn't sucking fuel in because the valves weren't closing (or air for that matter).
I'll pull the cover and crank down the intake a little to .003 and see how it does. Do your valves not chatter at all - even when the engine is cold? I assumed that that would until the engine had a minute or two to warm up

Thanks,
Tim

the valves probably was your problem, yes when my engine is cold and before it warms up good i can here my rocker arms working a little. it probably wouldn't hurt to recheck your valves.
i will tell one on myself i adjusted my valves a while back and when i went to adjust the exhaust valve .004 and .005 was stuck together on feeler guage and didn't realize it.which that made me setting the exhaust valve a .009 ,you talk about some valve shatter plus it run like dirty diaper because the exhaust valve wasn't opening up enough.so i had to readjust valves again . so if you are not sure never hurts to look the situation over again :D

PUD,
Glad you posted that comment about the guages sticking together - I'm pretty sure I did the same thing!
I cranked the intake down a bit to .003
The exhaust was way open - I must have had .005 &.006 stuck together.
Thanks to your post I paid closer attention to them sticking together and had no issues the second time around.
Both 150s are adjusted and running great now. :D

Thanks,
Tim

i can see 5 and 6 sticking together.the numbers on my feelers guage are only on one side, anyway a mistake is a mistake and i done it.

We've all done those type of silly things. It takes a man to be able to admit it... I'm glad you guys mentioned it. I've got a need to adjust or at least check mine and it sounds like something I'd do.

the valve on top is the intake.
