Try an outerwears pre-filter. All the trusted dealers on here sell them. they are a fine mesh cover that slips over the filter and you can take it off to shake the dust off.

yep i doubled my protection and works good save me from cleaning all the time i just walk by and hit it with the air hose when blowing dust off engine and carb.
i remember the pop bottle i made one a while back out of thin tin virbration broke it off so thats when i went to the k&n over the uni outer wears, didn't seem to hurt my jetting
I use the K&N precharger filter sock over my UNI's. They can become coated with dust, pull it off and the UNI is still clean. Buggys run the same with or without them on.

"tomatolord",
I use at least one "filterskin" and a waterproof "Outerwear" with every set-up I have. I have even been able to tune the intake by adding filter skins. If it were too Lean I can add one skin, still too lean, another skin. This has save me have to rejet on occasion. Each "filterskin" is good for approximently a 10% reduction in airflow, so it can solve 2 problems at the same time.
By the same token, if you have too much oil or too many skins/waterproof devices you may actually cause a condition wich will require a need to rejet.

You dont really want to mess with the intakes to much, any bends you put in them to "snorkel" them will affect performance and cause more work somewhere else. Go with the K&N prefilter, most of us run them and love them.
