Unleashed Motorsports is a source of the lower gear ratio.

I have the 2007 EFI GK32... came with a low ratio trans.... are you certain you have the high ratio trannny? if so, Perhaps roketa made the carb w high ratio and the EFI with low... how did you check yours?

I never pulled mine apart or really verified.. all I know is I can climb pretty much anything (pre-turbo) in 1st gear that a RZR can, thus just figure I must of had the low ratio tranny....

by had, i mean that i used to have the stock 2007 roketa open diff tranny before i broke it.. now I have a locked diff joyner tranny I belive is low ratio as well..

I live in maricopa az. I have not checked the trans but I used to have the 06 2 seater and the gears feel the same never using 4 gear. On hills even 1st gear with the turbo will bog down. I'm eventually gonna pull this motor an trans to install one of my Honda civic motors but wanted to see how much of a difference the lower geared trans was.

As a rule of thumb, from word from vendors (Venom Motors, Awesome buggy, Unleashed in 2005. Any titled Roketa with a date of 07/06 or sooner was a taller gearing. I had bought mine in Dec. of 05 and was told by several dealers. That if I could waite until July-Aug 06 shipment those July titled buggys will be the lower ratio. At the end of o6 I did purchase the low ratio from Venom and would probably have sold it if this wasn't available. 1st gear is like a granny gear. Not sure how an 07 can be High ratio though. But I don't think there were 4 seaters in 06 anyways.

how long have you had the four seater? what is your boost set at? my fourth gear felt alittle high even after the turbo, i was using one to small for my application if you can believe that. with the right sized turbo and the same boost psi fourth gear now feels much more usable. almost like tuning a two stroke to have a wider powerband.

It's a Garret 454163-1 from an industrial pump engine. It has a 43mm compressor and a 63mm turbin. It's old non water cooled bushing stile brgs ect. But it's clean and tight. I'll get off my but and get some pics soon.

Sorry off topic but studio50 how much lift did you get on your front end? Did you have to do any mods to the steering rack? I'm thinking of doing some coilovers, still in the reserch mode kind of thinking about RaceRunners herd anything about these shocks?

I haven't figured out how to post pics yet. It was also said that the 07 4 seater was efi but mines carb. The turbo size I'm not sure its a homemade kit with no intercooler or bov which gives u no lag in between shifts. It's producing 8 psi rite now. Trail riding is good for this buggy but trying to tackle a decent hill I have to peg it in first with no chance of makin it in second.

i dont run an intercooler but I've found that a bov is a must to keep the compressor (cold) side of your turbo in one piece. if it's carbed it very well could have the high ratio trans, then your going to need to get ahold of unleashedmotors to get the gear set or look around ebay for a low ratio trans.

With 8psi of boost and having to pin it in 1st to get up a hill.... Sounds like something might be going on with the turbo or motor....i know danworks is at 5psi and he is running pretty good in the dunes .....I think a BOV is a must .....try that first and see if the buggy reacts differently.....

Ya its a pretty janky set up. It doesn't even have a waste gate. I'm pull this set up and and redo it with extra turbo parts from my civic them look into gettin the trans hopefully this will make a difference to were I dnt wanna rip the motor out haha.

Once you get your turbo sorted i think you'll be real happy with it....if you can somehow get pics up of it we may be able to trouble shoot some stuff for you. You can try photobucket.com to post up pics to the net too....good luck

I agree with the other turbo dudes..... Sounds more like turbo issue than tranny issue.. even with high gear tranny, you should be able to get up any decent hill with out having to max out first... and 4th gear should be usable as long as you keep her boosting well into the gear...

I lost a bit of my climbing ability going turbo because I used to be able to just crawl up a hill in first with my gas pedal to the floor... now I have to keep her a bit boosted to keep momentum... I get up the same hills, just have to do it a lot faster now. I traded my rock crawl abilities for speed....

This buggy is in my hands now. I picked it up last week. I think he lost interest in trying to fix it. The turbo is a mitsubishi TD05-12a and is shot! Looks like it sucked up some pretty dirty stuff and the bearings are bad. Not to mention, the mounts for the missing waste gate have been ground off. The jetting was too lean for a turbo (from what I have read on the forum) and there is no fuel regulator. The good news is that the motor does have good compression in all three cylinders. The carb looks like it's been modified to get rid of the vacuum actuated secondary. There is a spring that opens the secondary once the throttle is about half open. This thing needs some serious TLC though!

Well Karl, I hope that new head works out for you too. Sure would pay off if you have a chance to port and polish it. =P~
