I included the link to the thing, the key takes the place of your stock timing key and advances you timing 10 degrees. But I thought thats what the cdi did, gives you a hotter spark?I dont understand the need for the cdi and the 10 degree timing key.

The cdi's thaqt he had at his shop were direct drop in replacements made by mrp racing. As a matter of fact most the aftermarket gy6 mod stuff he had there was all M.R.P Racing.

i have seen these 10 degree advanced timing keys. if you run a performance cdi that has no adjustment what degree do they change motor?
i guess my question is with the key way and performance cdi is there a chance of advancing the timing to far causing the motor to run to hot.?????
maybe i'm thinking about this the wrong way.i know you can advance the distributor on vehicle and make them run pretty darn good but you can watch the temp guage go up and when you shut engine down it will kick back on starter until it cools down some.
pud

To put it in a nut shell; the key gives a specified amount of initial timing advance. The cdi adds more advance at specified rpms, the cdi just dictates when and for how long the plug fires. [An electronic timer, basically] The coil, plug wire and sparkplug are responsible for spark strength. Read up some on internal combustion engine timing basics. the same principles apply any 4 stoke engines. It will become clear to you then.

I know someone who tried it, they had to grind the key down to fit the crank. then it sheared off after a hard run. the picture looks better than the actual key

I would not play with advancing ignition timing unless you are moinitoring engine temperature, 10deg is a far bit. You may need to rejet your carbie to keep the temperature at safe levels. If you get too much advance you can definetely put a hole in your piston.

I agree with GMC. 10 degrees does seem to be a bit much. I just got my hands on an adjustable CDI and I plan to install it tomorrow if time permits. I already have the high output coil and iridium spark plug installed. That little mod alone gave me a noticeable improvement with respect to starting hot or cold, acceleration, and the engine runs crisper. I literally can feel a noticeable difference in the entire rpm range.
But back to the offset ignition key, I think I would stay away from it (10degrees) unless using it in an all-out race engine.

I never had plans on installing one just wanted to no what the fellas thought of them.I completed my first set of mods yesterday,10 gram rollers,1500 rpm clutch spring, clutch springs, uni intake, and re -jet.I'm very happy with how that turned out huge difference.I'm gonna drill out my stock exhaust today but plan on getting new one from MRP soon along with a racing cdi and mabey even a cam. These buggy mods are addictive!!!
