Hi,I'm new to the forum and the buggy life ,here my story I bought two buggis one a kandi150cc and a Baja reaction 250cc,Kandi had typical issues dirty cab,bad fuel got it all squared away was running amazing into the kids decided to take it out with no oil in the offseason the Pistons got it to free up or my compression is at 110,(might need a new topend) the one that I'm having issues with is the Baja, for some reason it's hard to start turns over doesn't start but the compression tester on it and it's reading 180 throttle close 195 trottle open any suggestions, hash mark and carburetors been cleaned twice in the miracle that it starts it runs pretty good doesn't idle I have no hesitation in taking off

When it's not starting, do you have strong spark? If so, is it a fuel delivery problem? If you're getting good spark, pull the plug and put some fuel in there. If if fires then you know you have a fuel delivery problem.

Have you done a valve adjustment?

With 195 psi at WOT I'd say the valves are probably in decent shape.

I was thinking maybe too much lash which would limit how well it could breathe. This would still give you good compression with loose valve clearances.

I have more time on the weekends ,it's kinda hard to get use to or familiarize myself with this forum, kind of confusing but any how ,no just got the buggies just doing more research then hens on for now.....I've worked on jet skis so this isn't strange to me.compression seemed high for my knowledge, will try gas in spark plug, when I crank do smell gas and plug is some what wet so thinking it's a enriched or flooding issue but not sure

That compression is pretty decent for that model. If your running the stock air box, you may want to pull it and make sure critters haven't built a nest in it. If all is clear then pull that plug and crank it over to clear the cylinder. If you have a new plug put that in, if not take a propane torch and heat the tip up real good. Sometimes they get gas fouled and this will clear it. Now while you have the plug out put it back on the plug wire and lay the plug on the engine and crank it over to make sure you are getting spark.

Things I've done: remover air box replaced with uni filter, haven't adjusted valve because I've read it has to be running, when I crank I smell gas,I removed plug and I do have a spark not really blue more of an orange but I havent done it at night to be sure, but a reading on my compression of 180 closed throttle and 190 at wot makes me think I'm suckin more air from another source, when it does decided to start it will run just fine until I stop and will continue to run for 10 seconds then shut off and it's another battle to get it to start

Orange spark. Weak ignition.

Sounds like it. It shouldn't have to be dark outside to see your spark.

Thanks for the response guys,so I adjusted my valves today, while off ,my intake was way off now I got my compression and a steady 155,itu didn't take that long for it to start, same issue just start more ramdomly now,I know I'm getting fuel, took carb off and intake boot was wet,any of you guy recommend a good coil don't need performance just reliability

Any stock coil should do. Another thing to keep in mind, the ignition switches on these things are known to fail as well.

I just had to replace a switch just for that very reason, it is a common problem.

Okay new update ,I had time to Tinker with it today....seems that if I put my hand over carb and restricts some of the airflow it starts...soon as I remove my hand it runs 10 sec then dies.... if I restrict the airflow even more while it's running I'm guessing the Richer is working because it starts revving up and moving forward. .........so in conclusion obviously my air to fuel ratio is out of whack I have it turned two rotations out on my adjustment screw does this mean I need a new carb?

Just ordered a new carb hope that's my issue

I would check for vacuum leak first at intake and vacuum line to carb. also I have found many carbs missing the tiny O-ring at the fuel pump thing on the carb where the line goes.

Hi, Make sure the slider is not stuck, if not try and hand choke lightly as it is running and see if it will rev-up if it does then likely a lack of fuel. you create more vacuum with your hand drawing in more fuel.
Take a good look at the intake make sure it is not hitting the head and causing a vacuum leak. I have found some of the aftermarket intakes for CF250 don't fit properly and need to be "trimmed" for a good seal.
