Picked up a really cheap 500 HO Scrambler. It runs good just falling apart. Time to start cutting. G-ray I hope you have some insight for me.

Im going to go at it like i did the front end... Do as much as i can off the buggy and see where im at. I dont want to be without my buggy this summer so i'll have to be darn sure i can have it done before any rides.

well im still in the "how the hell am i gonna do it" stage... It looks like if i keep it in the cradle the transmission output is going to be to far past the sprocket...The chain will bind on the transmission. I have been given a few tips by Josh G-ray and Digger. I have a couple of options. I can go with a jack shaft or i can take everything out of the cradle and put the trans in front and under the engine. The second way would look much cleaner and tight. But a little more work. With this set up i could also keep a lot of the factory rear supports, I think.

Of course it means giving up a seat, some of the meanest quad swaps I've seen put the motor where the passenger seat is. It's really how I would want to go about it, myself, but I can't give up the passenger seat...that's my whole reason for getting the buggy.

Are you going to run the Polaris wheels and tires? If you do that I'd almost rather just extend the swingarm the 6 inches or so it'd need to keep the factory Polaris cradle intact.

I cant extend it anymore...ive already lengthened the front. I dont want to give up the passenger seat either. Im not using the polaris wheels and tires. Digger is giving me some pointers and this picture shows my plan. http://www.dropshots.com/whiting020878# ... 6/10:37:00

Yep both of those are hard sacrifices to make and I can certainly sympathize. Building my own I want to avoid altering the wheel base and track as much as possible myself. Up front and under is about your only real option, but it's also provena nd works great.

Ok...i have measured and remeasured. It looks like im going with the jack shaft method. It will be the simplest. Question for the joylaris guys. do the HH's and joyners have the same toothed sprocket? Also, what are your top speeds in the joyners? The reason i ask is because I have the oportunity with the jack shaft to gear it differently. I have the hnr tranny.

Do you think you could post a pic of the chain side of the motor and maybe behind the passenger seat how the buggy is now? Is your buggy dual chain drive fed from the gear box behind the drives seat? Heres a pic of mine.
