Many states have a water quality control board that works to ensure that our water remains clean. Unfortunately, the anti-4×4 crowd has been using “water quality” issues to close our trails, saying that 4x4s dump sediment into the water. Water quality was the issue that closed Tellico, and in California the anti 4×4 crowd complained to the water quality control board that the Rubicon trail was ruining our water, putting our “crown jewel” trail in jeopardy.

Anyone with any sense realizes that the sediment dumped into the water from 4×4 use is negligible compared to many other things like logging, ski resorts, and mother nature just to name a few. But the anti’s have used this angle to their advantage. Most water control boards answer to NO ONE, so if they shut a trail down, there is not much you can do.

Now there is a push to extend the reach of these “water” closures all over California, which is littered with 4×4 trails.

Well, enter Amy Granat from CORVA. I will not bore you with all the details, but bottom-line, she needs as many of these affidavits signed and sent to her as possible.
