dumb question, but do you have to replace the weights every so often? I replaced them when I purchased the buggy, but that has been a long time ago. I am having some type of rattle during acceleration. It runs like a top. Any ideas? I don't remember how to install new weights, and I don't know whats best rollers or sliders.

Hi wrightd-

Yes, you need to inspect your rollers and sliders every so often - annually should be enough if everything seems to be running fine. You may be overdue.

Rollers develop flat spots over time and that would definitely cause the behavior that you're experiencing.

Click the link below in my signature and check out the CVT install guides. They'll show you how to take apart the CVT and get inside the variator to inspect/replace your rollers.

As for which is better, I believe that sliders perform better than rollers, and they last longer too. This is because any shaving that would cause flat spots on rollers will not significantly alter the shape of a slider - meaning it will still function as intended.

Inspect your rollers, and you'll know whether you need to replace them or not. My stock rollers had a BIG flat side on them when I first upgraded to sliders.

Eventually your rollers or sliders will wear. If you are lucky they will wear evenly and just get a little lighter until you wear down the outer layer. Once the layer is gone or abnormal wear is present, your CVT will not shift through the ratios evenly and will affect performance.

Thank you, so much for the input. I think I will install new weights, maybe 9.5 or 10. To give me a little more pulling power.

yep i agree a 100% with these guys my first set of mod rollers were 9.5 gram i only got just a little over 5 months out of them, then i have read others run them for a lot longer.i think mine went faster do to my riding style, they flat spot and wouldn't shift wright.

something else you might want to check to is your kick start gears after a while they will get a little ware in them and start to rattle some.i know i had that problem that lead me to beleive that my problem was in the variator.
