If you want your picture on the front page of buggynews just add them to your gallery. We haven't had many new pictures uploaded lately. We all like to look at new pictures so upload them and I'll look through them and add them to the front page every few days or so.

The size limit in the gallery is smaller than on the forum, will this be changed?

Ah! You're obsessed! :-)

1600 x 1440 (was 1280) seems decent enough for most uses at the moment...is your concern that some people just won't be able to resize their 10 - 12 megapixel images and will be blocked out or that our community is so picture sensitive that we must have the highest resolution pictures available? A real integrated "gallery" solution would be better, that way any sized picture would be accepted and then resized into thumbnails, intermediate, and high resolutions.

We can set the current image resolutions higher though if we want. BN is fairly sizable already with over 20GB in disk stored data and over 1GB more in a database. BN also moves 30 - 40GB / month over the wire.

In the personal albums, we are limited to 309KB images I have to resize most of my images or resample them with greater compression.

Got it.

(1600 x 1440 x 3) / 12 = 576000

12:1 is just a touch on the high side, but still workable.

Better? :-)

BTW: In personal albums, people after 6/29/2005 are not listed and you can only get to your first page of photos:

gallery/album_personal.php?user_id=5260

gallery/album_personal_index.php

As for the 2005 listing, I don't think that's *exactly* true. :-) Change the Joined date sort direction and you'll see people from 2009. There's a slight issue with the SQL LIMIT I expect.

Second one is now fixed (I had the same error in the general display, but I didn't notice on personal albums because I didn't hit a user with more then one page)

The query is limited to 18 pages or it fails. If you are not in the top or bottom 18 pages for any sort method, you do not see the result.

Ok, I think I got it. I had to rewrite about 3 sizable SQL statements, but I think it all works now.

Sorting, in both directions and click-through to albums and pictures. There was some pretty broken stuff in there....

Educate me why I can post an enormous picture (file size and dimensions) but can't link to anything larger than 760 pixels?

Because the [img] link cannot be resized to fit the forum width - it's somewhere else and has to remain the size that it is.

If you just want to link to an offsite picture (but not show it) user the [url] tag - but I'm sure you already knew that. :-)

If you'd like to see the effect that linking to an offsite huge picture has - I can demonstrate for you. Neither way of portraying it is very enjoyable to view.

The first way is the way the forum used to work - if really big content was put in a post, it broke out the page rendering and stretched the GUI to the right. It caused the browsers to render OS level window scrollbars. Overall, it looked ridiculous and was a pain to navigate.

The second way is the way it works now - if really big content is in a post, inner scroll bars are created which holds the GUI in place, but puts a scroll inside the GUI, attached to the 1 post. It doesn't look great either, but it's way easier to navigate because only that one post slides and the rest of the GUI stays put.

760 pixels is the width of this post section. And it is possible to turn that restriction off but it will create one of the 2 above situations in some posts.
