....so I'm guessing you've got a mill and lathe at your house? NICE! I wouldn't mind some equipment like that round here....I went to HS in Detroit area when they actually still made cars in the USA...our HS had everything known to man... machine shop and welding wise...it was totally set up to train people for blue collar work...needless to say .....I took all the shop classes....it was a great learning experience...much better than a useless Greek Mythology class....lol

Not doing a lot of fabing at the moment. Been cleaning parts and getting ready to put my engine together. I did do the needed mod to the transmission case which I will pass on for anyone who chooses to use the Xplorer high/low transmission. This will also be the same if your using the earlier chain drive Sportsman high/low transmission.

I also took the time to make up a spanner to install the slotted nut that holds the timing chain sprocket on the crankshaft.

to cool to watch, hopefully you'll have this one ready by VOF. Keep up the good work

Cradle is all done and painted. Just took the tranny apart and went through it to make sure it is ok. It looks like new but the out put shaft turns stiff for some reason. I wonder if there is a slight mis-alignment in opposing bearing pockets. I need to start on the engine next. I think I have all the parts to put it back together so just need to get busy.

I do have more pictures but left the camera out in the shop. So later today I will post some of them.

Your trans in your 400 build shifted so easily. Did you go through that one as well? What makes them shift hard (like mine)?

Yes I did go thru it. If you remember I crashed the first one at 2013 bash. So the second one was built from parts. I really don't know why yours shifts hard. My old 500 shifts easy as well.

Here is the cradle all welded up. Also here is the socket I made. I forgot to add this to the other posts. I am now working on putting an engine together. I have yet to figure out why I get myself into these projects.

Here I made the output shaft bearing support bracket. I also made it to accept a Polaris caliper for my ebrake. The plasma cutter sure makes doing things like this easier.

Here is the cradle with my tranny and my mock up engine all mounted to double check everything.

I have now started on putting the engine together.

nice man!I really like your bolt on engine cradle. What else are you planning for this beast? Are you going to run 3 rear brake discs?

I usually upgrade the rear brakes to HH rotors and Polaris calipers for normal rear brakes. This is going to be the ebrake. I want something that will hold. I have seen too many of the Joyner ebrakes smoked because someone including me have for got to release them. These 500s don't even know the stock brake is on and will pull off like nothing is wrong. This should hold just fine. I also plan to move the ebrake handle and master to the center where it is easier to see and not forget so easily.
