What do you look for in a donor? Year and stuff? CapedBandit is looking for a doner and not having luck. He is avoiding that 400 2 smokers as well.

The 500 scrambler is a good choice, they are single speed chain drive. For most people they are just fine. If you do a lot of low speed technical stuff you are better off with the earlier chain drive sportsman or explorer two speed transmission. I think you want a 99 or newer to get the HO engine which has the 42mm carb. They make a little more hp. I know guys that have used the older engine and they still are so much better than the 250. If you go with the new sportsman you will have to find an earlier chain drive tranny unless you want to use the Polaris axles. Those are pretty long so don't know how much trouble you'll have fitting them in a Joyner or similar buggy. On the Scrambler stay away from the 4x4 version as they have an output shaft for the front differential that interferes with the chain drive

File comment: You have to trim some of the transmission case for the chain to clear. The 4x4 you don't have that option

Yes I did, the 29th of August was my last day. Been working my tail off here at the house ever since.

Thanks, they do get a little easier each time. The picture I just posted was one I did for a member just after I retired. We used a single speed scrambler for that swap.

As for mods to the engine.....well it has had some machine work done. We'll have to see if the guy who did the work on it is as good as he says he is before I endorse his work. The quest is to get a 500 to pull like my 400 did without the aggravation of a two smoke.

I worked on separating out the wiring harness to remove unused wires and identify wires I am going to use on the Polaris stuff. I gutted the Joyner electrical box so I can mount the Polaris stuff in it.

While paint dried on the electrical box I decided to put the front shocks on. I decided to make clamps to hold the remote reservoirs.

I used a polaris sled tach on mine. If you plan on a tach for it they come cheap on ebay. Those clamps are pretty sweet! Wheres mine? lol

Thanks Rob, I copied a set I saw on a certain yellow Joyner a friend made for another BN member ;-) His was a lot nicer.

Thanks Chris, I am not sure I would do it again. they were a pita. From all the cutting and grinding on the first one , the second one I did on the mill which was just as messy my shop looks like an aluminum bomb went off. I think I will buy the next set if there is another set.

Rich, I've made a few sets of reservoir mounts and they're more work than they look like. I'd probably just buy them next time too, trouble is finding the size you need. Keep up the good work :D

Did get to do a little on the buggy yesterday before the family came over to celebrate my birthday.

Here is the finished product on the rear wheel adapter so I could mount my Polaris wheels and tires. Got the cradle mounted and the rear shocks mounted. Had to drill out the bushings so I could use the Joyner bolts on the Fox shocks. Can't wait to see how those work. As you can see from the picture I did get the transmission and engine mounted and now need to locate the engine top mount.
