I took the plunge. I took my engine apart today. I am having a machine shop mill down .035". I can't wait to try it out.
I do have some carbon build op on the piston and sparkplug. What would cause that?
I am getting a racing clutch, 12gm rollers, alloy intake, and a 130mm CV carb. I am hoping to have the ultimate "SUPER SAHARA 150".

You said you have a 135 jet... right?

To me that it is proof positive that a 135 jet is too large. Carbon buildup from incomplete combustion.

Good luck with the milling! THat's sweet... you'll have a great blade after that.

Keep us posted Jabo, you have my attention!! :)

That is a stock head just like mine correct?

How much cash did a machine shop want if you don't mind me asking.

It is the stock head. $50 to mill.
Yes, I am using a 135 jet. Time to switch to a 130.

Alright, my head is done! :D
But I won't have a new gasket for it til Friday.
My head has a metal gasket, but there is no base gasket. Is there supposed to be? I thought there was supposed to be a paper gasket on base and metel on head. Can I get a gasket from a local atv dealer?
Part #??

You can usually get away with re-using your head gasket if the black stuff isn't in real bad shape. Unless you took the jug off you shouldn't need a base gasket? Honda shop may carry this? All of your 150cc chinese quads are nearly identical so if you have a local dealer you may be able to get it there. Also, just make your own!

good luck,
Kell

The gasket material can be found at autoparts stores... comes in sheets at places such as NAPA, etc.

The jug is the part of the engine that goes between the head and the base of the engine.

Jabo,
I was wondering if you know that the racing clutch, 12gm rollers, might due for you?

I am even more intreasted in the alloy intake, and a 130mm CV carb. I take it this is Barons carb? If so, did he give you any expectations of new performance? I think it is a 30mm carb. I think you have your jet and your carb wires crossed. :)

I would like to see a picture of your engine with the head off, if your board.

Do you have a pictures or links to the carb or intake?

sorry, lots of questions.

OK, I will have more info tomorrow. Igot the head milled, big differance. I put on the racing clutch, you don't need lighter rollers with it (stiffer springs).
I put on the alloy intake and 30mm pumper carb (I had to turn the carb about 45deg so it would fit (big) the intake on the carb is in line with the bar for the basket. I will have to go to homedepot and get some flex tubing for filter. I haven't tested it yet, just started it and backed it out of my shop and drove it back in.
More info this weekend.

Is this Baron's carb?? I thought it was going to fit better than that.

If you can take pictures, please do.

Do you have the cam yet? The stock blade cam is very mild... has less lift than the older twisters. James Lee sells a cam that apparantly is even a little bit hotter than the east side cam.

Thanks,

S

It is a Keihin 30mm CVK (pumper) :) I have the pipe, cam, milled head (.035) Uni air, alloy intake and a racing clutch. I will get some pictures soon.

Glad to hear the milling had a nice effect, could you report a little more on that for the people considering this.

As far as the carb, that 30 pumper is pretty big. It's going to flow an awful lot of air/fuel. Where did you get this? My results with a 30 weren't too good, but I didn't bother jetting it perfectly and I didn't have a new intake (you can cram a 30mm CV keihin in the stock intake). Please share your pics of the carb intake combo when you get them.

:D :D :D :D :D :D
WOW!!!!
What a differance
OK, here it is. I had the cam, uni air, pipe from eastside. Works great.

Then I had the head milled .035, made more of a differance than eastside hp kit. point A to point B in 12 seconds

Now, I put in a racing clutch and a Keihin 30mm pumper :D I don't know what is making the most differance, the clutch or the carb, because I put them on at the same time.
Now the same point A to point B is a mind blowing 8 seconds.

I can't say what is the best for you, but with all this done my Sahara screams! I can't wait to try it on some hills tomorrow.

Kelly, was your 30mm carb a pumper?

Carb was NOT a pumper, is yours a Constant Velocity?

Now about the clutch, exactly what did you replace?

It is the whole clutch assembly. All I had to do is take the clutch bell off and slide in the new clutch. The springs are stiffer also, so I didn't have to change the rollers.
Carb is CV.
