Hi, new to the forum but thought some of you would like to see what I recently built.
Its a Roketa 250 that I pulled the motor out of and put in a Kawasaki ZX6R motor. Runs awesome and seems to have the perfect amount of power. The only thing I am looking at now is putting on better suspension.
Video link of it at the sand dunes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dv3uFcM7SuI

I saw your add on CL and posted it here for all to see a few days ago. Are you still planning on selling it? You did a great job on the engine swap, looks great!

Welcome to buggynews!!!!

I am planning on selling it so that I can build another one. I have another ZX6R motor ready to go and I would like to do one with really awesome suspension and a few other tricks. My current one is getting a medium suspension upgrade this week which I think is going to make it tons better.

Welcome to buggynews. That is a great job you did I have the same buggy and would love to know how you modified your gearbox and what sprocket you used on the it.I am in the thought process of doing a engine swap and this is the only thing left to figure out.

Thanks, I will shoot another video of the details to help those of you wanting to do a swap. It was a ton of modding but the end result is really awesome, sadly the guy I had driving the kart while I was shooting the video was too scared to floor it so he never got it over about 8k rpm and half throttle. that motor will wind out to about 13k and it really goes when you floor it.

The gear box mod was I dissasembled it and added a copper bushing to the external drive to strengthen it. I think anyone doing a swap could avoid this because it really was a ton of work and I'm not sure it was really needed.

The counter shaft sprocket is a 13 tooth and the rear sprocket is a 22 tooth, I also put a chain roller on the bottom between the two sprokets to keep the chain from slipping under hard accelartion and high rpm. This was crucial, the chain wants to fly away from the sprocket very easily. I also had to add a couple gear box tensioners in the back, they are addjustable and function to strengthen the gear box and take up chain slack (you will all have to do this!)

Over all, I have been really impressed with how it came out. I have taken it out several times with the purpose of trying to break it just to find any weak points and so far it all works great. Not kidding though, the suspension cannot keep up with that motor so that would be something to budget in when doing your project. I should have new suspension on it by the middle of next week and I will put up a review.

I documented the entire build with photos so here are a couple.

File comment: in this pic you can see where I cut the frame and started adding in the new mounts, the copper sleave I added to the gear box is also visable.

Good job on the swap man. I'm interested in doing a swap myself. If you have more pics of the build please post them up! Is there anyway you could use the stock exhaust?

Thanks bro.

Awesome build. About your chain slippage. But from the photos, I cannot see if you have a heavy brace between your engine and the final drive. Not that they are both on the same frame, but a direct brace as close as possible to the sprockets. You'd be surprised how much even a little bit of steel will flex when put under a load. The engine mounts will twist a little, the gearbox will creep forward and so on. You may be able to ditch the extra chain sprocket if you put a brace between them. It could also do double duty if you make it a tensioner, too. I'd also recommend bigger sprockets on both ends if you can fit it. That helps with wear and slippage, too. You can keep about the same gear ratio with bigger sprockets at both ends.
I'm not knockin - this is way more build than I've ever done. But I had exactly that same problem with chain slippage due to power on a smaller scale.

Five years old, I know, but bungee I'd love some more pics and information on how you attached your sprocket to the FNR box. What all did you do inside the box?

Hi, nice build! I have the same Roketa GK-06 and a 1988 Kawasaki 600 ZX600C bike, engine etc.
What year is your engine? I think I see carbs.
