Hi All,
I just acquired a new to me 250xt, I am trying to restore it to its former glory. The issue I am running in to is, the shift assembly has been modified after the push pull cable started binding(not sure if this is the original shift cable from factory). The previous owner machined a level to shift from L H N R, so in order to shift you have to get out, which is not optimal while riding. Can someone advise we where I can purchase a complete shift assembly and/or post photos of how their 250xt shift assembly is included.
I know there is some cross compatability with Roketa carts, but I would hate to order the incorrect items and it seems there are many models that are similar. Here is one I have found.

Here are a couple pics to show what I am working with. I am also just outside of Potosi, MO about 15 minutes from St. Joe State Park.. Incase anyone is nearby. I was also driving around near top revs in low gear this weekend when the buggy kicked out of gear. I was able to get it back into gear but it has a metal on metal sound and will kick back out of gear. It is also hard to get into gear. I think having the bar attached to the shifter may have caused something to miss align or break.. So.. I am trying to fix that as well. If anyone has any links to manuals or threads on taking these transmissions apart and putting them back together I would appreciate it.. From what I can tell the torque converter and clutch are ok, the sound appears to be coming from inside the gear box.

Worked on it a little today.. it seems like it locks up in all gears and wont go. If you put it into neutral it rolls free.. so no issues shifting from gear to gear.. but when you get into gear and rev.. about the point of where it would start to move the clutch starts shaking like crazy and you hear grinding... so I most likely broke something.. anyways.. here is a link to some photos... a couple things I am trying to figure out... There are wires coming out of the transmission case, but mine have been cut.. what are these for? A couple other not as important items are, I found a sensor under the rear axel.. looks to be a speed sensor.. where does this wire into? It has been cut and I cannot find the same color wires anywhere... And on the carb.. the large vacuum hose coming from the case vents... where does this mount to? I have attached pics of everything in the folder. Thanks! https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing

Sorry, but I think you have a more serious issue than your shift cable. Sounds like your gears are badly damaged. Those are near impossible to locate replacements.

I am hoping that isnt the case, I will try to get the transmission case open to see what the issue is.. I think I may have found replacement gears, even a performance kit upgrade. Worst case, I have also found a new replacement motor and CVT, but if I have to replace stuff, I may as well throw a bigger motor in. I guess we will see once I get everything taken apart. I think Roketa 250CC buggies have the shift linkage I am looking for and I think 250cc Hammerhead transmission parts are also a fit as well.
Yes, it is a CFMoto 250 motor/trans the same as the Hammerhead (2007+). You'll need to get the gears out and check them. If you can source them, all the power to you. You cannot get them new anywhere I have looked (and I have looked, and looked). The shift mechanism on that one is different than the Hammerhead, so I'm of no use to you. Blade has been defunct for quite awhile, and other than Joyner, I don't think there were any others that put the CFMoto 250 in a buggy. You may have to do some fabrication. Tom Syc would be a source, potentially for a schematic or something that might show what it's supposed to look like. Best of luck.

I have some great news, the gears are OK! The mid shaft bearing exploded which was the reason it kept jumping out of gear and the clutch would wobble. Everything else looks good. Except... I cant get the damn nut off the clutch to pull the shaft and bearing... need to take a break but hoping to get it back up depending on when I can get parts in

ah.. I just took apart the transmission. the gasket is mostly intact, although 2 pieces. But the great news is the gears are fine, but I had the middle shaft bearing explode.. the one that goes to the clutch.. I should have taken the clutch off before cause now I cant get it out to clean.. now I just need to find the middle bearing and order it
The insides look good. That is usually where they fail. Those lugs get rounded over, and then waller out the bigger gear. Those are the gears that are hard to find. Hopefully that chip won't be an issue.

Instead of using the old two piece gasket try using "Permatex 88224 The Right Stuff Gasket Maker". Tom Syc swears by it and my CFmoto250 has it between the cases etc with no leaks.
