Hello,
i recently bought a 150cc roketa go kart from a guy who sold it to me. it was not neglected but just sat in a garage with a flat tire. I tried to start it the first time and it did fine then after I let it sit for a minute, it stopped working ( i dont know if its a coicidence) and then i tried to start it over and nothing. I went back to the solenoid and jumped it and the starter turns but wont crank over, atleast to my knowledge. I dont know what could be wrong besides a new starter solenoid. Any thoughts would be appericated, thanks!

Your post is confusing...you said it ran then just stopped? Or did you shut it off and try to start it again and it wouldn't? If it ran then stopped, it could be ignition module or lack of fuel. If it sat in the garage for some time, I'd pull the carb and clean it. Also, drain the gas tank and put in new fuel. Also, check for spark.

Regarding the second part where you said you jumped the solenoid and the starter turns but it won't crank...this sounds like your clutch is out. Plus, either your selenoid or starter switch. If the starter spins but the motor doesn't turn over, that means your clutch is not engaging. Typical on a GY6.

ok got you, so basically i know my clutch is bad since it would not move when started, but are you talking about the starting clutch? And regarding your other post, im not sure if it ran out of fuel or just died but will look at carb. I will order a new solenoid (starter relay) and clutch, and possibly a starter clutch?

but does bypassing the solenoid stop the starter from engaging the flywheel since it converts to mechanical energy?

He is saying if the starter turns (by jump) but does not engage (turn motor over) it is likely the starter clutch (not solenoid) I would add....If the starter spins freely but does not engage

so bypassing the solenoid does not mean that it is bad? I had it started yesterday but it stopped working

A gy6 150 engine has an internal "starter clutch" that's NOT built into the starter motor. If you're thinking like an automobile starter where there's a spring loaded starter gear, the GY6's dont' work that way. The starter motors are always engaged to the starting clutch gear, but the starting clutch spins internally when the engine is running. Here's a video on chanching this part: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFiGk-yv0rU
I've had to change many of these as they "junk out" often. If you're able to jump the solenoid and it still won't turn the engine over, then yes, your starter clutch is out. Sometimes they work intermittently. If you're saying that you turn the key (or starter switch) and NOTHING happens, then you have an electrical problem. The not staying running issue could be something else.

gotcha, so jumping the solenoid should theoretically turn the engine over, correct?

Yes...jumping the solenoid SHOULD turn the engine over. If you have tried jumping the solenoid and all you hear is the electrical starter motor running (kindof like a high pitched whirling noise), but you don't hear the engine actually turn over, you have a problem with your starter clutch.

You had a bad ground or short somewhere and fried something you will have to go over your wires and find it
