Happy New Year everyone. A neighbor bought one of these...not running... and I got roped in to seeing if I can get it to run. It has been neglected/left out in the elements but mechanically it seems to be in pretty good shape. Electrically I have everything working so far except starting - I have no spark. Someone has been in to this unit before but I dont think they tore stuff up too badly.
There seems to be a real lack of documentation on these things, for example I cant even tell if its a 250 or a 400...
Does anyone have any wiring diagrams on this? I dont want to throw parts at it and I dont think my neighbor does either. Does anyone have any idea what a new CDI and coil, possibly a carb would go for for one of these? Might make his decision easier about fixing it or selling it. Let me know what you think.
Thanks in advance.

Look for a displacement on the cylinder. Yamaha Big Bear parts should fix your ignition problems.

Turns out this one is a 250. Does anyone know what kind of compression this should have? Figure I'll check that before putting any money in to the electronics.

Should be able to find a big bear 250 service manual on quadcrazy.com

I just acquired one of these bad boys from a friend and just like the original post I can not find anything about this thing. Is there somewhere I can go to find out info on these or can anyone tell me how to look up what I have by vin # or the numbers I found on the engine. Please any help is much appreciated.

Hi everyone. I recently purchased the yamabuggy 400cc and ball joints are bad. Does anyone know where I can find the correct ball joints for this to machine? I've purchased ones that look identical but turned out to be smaller in diameter.

I previously owned a 400, and it was great fun while it ran, but I started having issues that I thought were related to ignition/carb, and I could never figure it out.

With that machine replacement parts can be challenging to find, I wish I could give you better info.

The actual engine, (head, block, piston etc....) is a Yamaha clone, and Yamaha parts can be used. The carb/ignition and anything outside the engine are the cheapest Chinese knock off parts they could find at the time. If you were so motivated, you should be able to procure the Yamaha carb and ignition, bolt it on and it should work. If you are having issues that is the route I would go. At one time I went round and round trying to figure out the Chinese ignition, and never did. Honestly that was why I ended up selling mine.
