hello all i recently traded some work for a boxer150 go-kart buggy that hasn't ran in 2 years. i put a battery in it and sprayed starting fluid in it and it started then died. i fixed the fuel line and put the vacuum line back on put fuel in it and it would start and die almost instantly. after pulling the carb and cleaning it a little i have gotten it to idle for a few minutes before it again dies. if you try to give it hard gas it dies. if you barely crack the throttle it will rev up a little then die. I've researched as much as possible found that they call them a gy6. it looks to have an upgraded carb and intake and petcock. I'm thinking it may have an intake leak or I need to better clean the carb. i do have a stock carb for it but hooking it up without the proper vaccum petcock and vacuum lines im not sure it will run. any info on this would be greatly appreciated. nice to be part of the community.

Try running it without gas cap.
Spray carb around intake manifold see if rpm changes

Funnyman test is good.

For the petcock, there's 2 types, vacuum and on / off switch if you want.

The vacuum petcock connect to the vacuum hose from the intake and carburetor. The bottom line of the petcock is the vacuum and the top line is fuel.

You can use an on / off petcock instead. Just connect the vacuum hose from the intake to the carburetor.

Check your fuel filter too. Also, with ethanol in fuel now, I know I had problem with fuel line drying out and reduce the flow. Check if they are dry.

so I tried to run it without the gas cap and have to spray it with starting fluid to get it to start initially now it just starts and then dies you cannot touch the throttle at all or it just dies I pulled the car off made two quart gaskets there was a spacer between the intake and the head I put the court house gets on and put the intake back together tried to start it same thing so I pulled the car off and pulled it all the way apart I'm going to clean it really really good inside now make sure all the needle seats are good I will need to know what the adjustment is for this little screw under the vacuum there will be a picture attached

The screw should be at 2 1/2 turn open. This is the basic, you might need to adjust it when the machine start.

A common problem is the black enricher with the wires. If this part goes bad, people tend to adjust the fuel mixture screw I talked right above. That will start your machine but will cause the problem you have now. There's also a resistor connect to it, check the value on it and take a multimeter to make sure it is right.

Air lock in the fuel line is another problem.

I have a stock carb that the last owner bought for it and couldn't get it to run with I could probably use that choke thing off that if that's possibly the problem

I don't think it's airlock due to it does the same thing with or without the gas cap on and when I pulled the car off the bowl was full of fuel

The screw all the way in until it stop. After, unscrew it 2 1/2 turn.

so I put the smaller carbon now it will start in idle but the minute you give it gas it just wants to choke and die

The enricher is electric, you need to let it idle a bit and you will hear the engine sound change. Before you push the throttle, wait a few minutes to let the engine warm up than push the throttle.

A regular choke, you can adjust manual, not the case now.
